Au revoir la France... just for a little while

Updated: Oct 16, 2023

We’ve used Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to northern Spain a few times in the past and stopped off at Roscoff to pick up passengers/crew... never thought it looked anything special from the ferry, well we were wrong!! What a great harbour town, really enjoyed having a cycle around and taking in a bit of cafe life...

The aire just outside the town (Aire du Laber) was our home for a couple of nights and both evenings we all (the bears included!) enjoyed stunning sunsets over the sea inlet from our motorhome!

Beyond Roscoff, you can’t get much further west on the northern France coast without ending up in the Atlantic Ocean so we turned south to Quimper for our next stop. We were there on what we called “wedding Saturday”.... saw six different brides as we cycled around, gatecrashed one wedding in the stunning cathedral and another in the grounds of our beautiful campsite - Castel Camping L’Orangerie de Lanniron. Just outside Quimper, this campsite probably gets our vote for the best campsite we stayed on in Brittany. It’s beautifully landscaped with large pitches and good facilities.

Our last major stop in Brittany before we started heading back for Calais was Concarneau. Good fun meeting up with HappiHalls again there, at Camping Les Sables Blancs, another great campsite with a particularly good restaurant pool and jacuzzi. Concarneau is another town well worth a visit, in particular medieval Ville Close, a walled town on a long island in the centre of the harbour.

We then bombed it back to the Eurotunnel, well if you call bombing it 3 hours driving per day for 3 days😉... now catching up with some commitments back in UK for the next few weeks before we head back to the continent... in the meantime we‘ve added lots of photos of our travels to the travel section of this website and the blog continues...
